The Black Lodge is a mysterious alternate dimension in 'Twin Peaks' filled with malevolent supernatural entities. At the end of the second series, the show's hero Dale Cooper was trapped in the Black Lodge. But at least he was still alive.

John is a friend of mine and of the people this song is about.
